Fat dissolving injections are a non-surgical solution to minimise and remove stubborn localised pockets of fat. It is ideal for those who exercise regularly and maintain a healthy diet but have pockets of fat that won’t shift, even with focused exercise. A specific fat dissolving solution is injected directly into fat deposits to destroy fat cells.

Fat dissolving injections work by breaking down cell membranes to liquefy the fat cell, destroying it permanently, releasing the lipids that are then eliminated naturally through the lymphatic system. The procedure consists of a set of injections (usually two) called Intralipotherapy which is an injection technique used for the reduction of localised anti-aesthetic fat on the face and body, administered 4-6 weeks apart.

It is important to know that fat dissolving injections are a body contouring and sculpting treatment, not a weight loss solution. Treatments with fat dissolving injections are only advisable for small, localised areas. Patients must be within one stone of their recommended body weight to have the treatment and be able to pinch about 3cm of fat.

* The results of treatment are permanent under the condition of maintaining a constant weight measurement (i.e. assuming you don`t gain weight). Destroying the fat cells is a permanent solution provided you retain a stable weight, eat healthily and continue to exercise as usual. Fat injections lead to a permanent reduction of fatty tissue; once removed, fat cells will not reappear.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

A reduction in fat deposits can be seen after just one treatment, however, you may require additional treatments (up to 8) to achieve desired results.
WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT TO SEE?
A reduction in fat in the targeted area can be noted from 4 weeks post-treatment. The speed at which noticeable results are seen will vary depending on the stability of the cell membranes; younger patients are more likely to see results after a longer period. In very small fat pockets, the desired results can already be seen after one treatment.

WHO CAN’T HAVE TREATMENT?
As long as you are generally healthy and don’t have any skin diseases or infections in the area treated, there are few medical reasons why you should not undergo this treatment. Not suitable for general weight loss and does not replace a healthy diet and exercise. The ideal candidate would be someone who has localised pockets of fat resistant to dieting. You will not be able to have this treatment if you are allergic to the ingredients or local anaesthetic. Contraindicated for patients with diabetes mellitus, bleeding disorders, impaired immune system, kidney or liver impairment. Contradicted if the patient is pregnant or breast feeding.
WHY DO YOU USE A LONG NEEDLE OR CANNULA WITH ONLY 1 OR 2 ENTRY POINTS INSTEAD OF A SHORT NEEDLE WITH MULITPLE ENTRY POINTS?
During intralipotherapy the product is released directly into the fatty tissue parallel to the skin, in between the skin and muscle in consistent threads and at different levels for the substance to have a functional effect and reduce risk of side effects.

During a multiple injection technique or mesotherapy technique the release of boluses spaced apart at a can increase the risk of side effects such as placement into the skin causing skin ulceration and necrosis, also irregularities of the skin (pseudocellulite effect) and nodules.

The intralipotherapy reduces the number of entry points to the skin drastically compared to multiple injection technique reducing the risk of infections and too shallow deposits of product causing necrosis of the skin.
The accessibility to a wide range of preparations used to perform the technique, with non-standardised dosages and non-standardised protocols, has created widespread confusion and a myriad of results, which are often very different from one another.
