DUTY OF CANDOUR POLICY
Advanced Nurse Practitoner/Prescriber Cherise Williamson at Aesthetica Medical Cosmetics (AMC) has a professional responsibility to be open and honest with patients, or those close to them, when something goes wrong with their treatment and has the potential to cause harm or injury.

In order to minimise the risk of something going wrong the Nurse Practitioner of AMC will fully discuss with the patient the proposed treatment, explain the risks and benefits of said treatment and provide information as to whether the risk occurs often or whether it is a very low risk of complication. Patients will also be offered an alternative treatment and the risks and benefits of this will also be explained including the costing of the treatment offered.

All treatment options will be explored and presented thoroughly with informed consent and full involvement with both patient/service user and Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner at AMC
In the event that something does go wrong then this means that the Nurse Practitioner at AMC must:
-
Tell the patient/service user when something has gone wrong, review what has happened and discuss as soon as possible with the patient giving them all appropriate information as to why this may have happened and the expected outcome and/or consequences will be discussed with the patient/service user
-
Apologise to the patient of what has gone wrong, when apologising to the patient the owners will give the patient the information they want or need in a way that they understand; the information will be given sensitively and in private
-
Always highlight the long and short term effects of what has happened and where possible offer an appropriate resolution or support to put matters right or refer if required to a fellow medical professional for continued advice, consultation and support for both patient/service user and practitioner
-
Report adverse incidents that lead to harm, as well as near misses and encourage a learning culture to prevent harm in the future – any drug errors must be reported to the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme
-
Report all information in the patients/service users records/nursing documentation and incident report the occurrence.

The Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner at Aesthetica Medical Cosmetics (AMC) will always be open and honest with relevant organisations and will take part in reviews and investigations. They have a duty of care to report these incidents to the Nursing and Midwifery Council, raising concerns where appropriate. As a member of both the CMAC group (Complications in Medical Aesthetics Collaborative) and ACE group (Aesthetic Complications Expert), Nurse Practitioner Cherise will be able to network and liaise with expert key professionals in the field of complications to support, reflect and aid future learning to care for patients and reduce the risk of potential future reoccurrence of similar incidents.

To prevent problems, discuss risks before beginning treatment – patients must be fully informed and understand the risks as well as the benefits to allow them to make an informed decision.
